A little note
from a maker, Eiko Kawaguchi ..... |

|
I was born and grew up in Japan. I
fell in love with glass while I was travelling overseas and started to |
blow glass in Tokyo Glass Institute
as a part time student in 1997. My curiosity for glass led to |
Ausglass conference in WagaWaga,
NSW, Australia in 1999. I had a wonderful year working and |
|
experiencing in several glass
studios there. |
|
I moved to New Zealand in 2001. I
set up a lampworking studio at home, Waikuku, North Canterbury |
in 2003. I have been
distributing my glass bead jewellery throughout New Zealand and
Canberra, |
|
Growth Ring of Memory.
(with glass, silver leaf and grain of sand from Waikuku Beach) |
Australia. |
|
I am passionate about creating. I
am inspired
by the beautiful environment of New Zealand, |
|

especially Waikuku where my studio
is located.
The inspiration from nature often
results in |
combining found material from the
surroundings into my work. |
|
I enjoy experimenting with colours.
Minimal use of colours within each work is very much |
influenced by my root, Japan. At
the same time, the use of vibrant colours are an impression of |
bright
and crisp New Zealand landscapes. |
|
I aim my glass beads jewellery
to be worn in any occasion; casual yet elegant. I design for |
longevity. I hope the work to be
treated with love by owners for a long period of time. |
